Day 2::Valentine, NE - Casper, WY

Today we rode 338 miles.

Dave was pretty proud of me this morning.  We were on the road at 7:30 a.m.  A huge feat for this non-morning person.  I get up early; I just don't seem to function well until mid-afternoon.  Anyway, we were on the road and it was CHILLY!  57 degrees when we left and it was about an hour into our ride when I said, "why didn't we wear our heated vests?"  So, we stopped and put on our vests.  What a good investment.  If your core is warm, you are warm.   It was 10:30 before we saw our first glimpse of sun.  We went from Central time to Mountain time in that time frame so we rode about four hours in some pretty chilly weather.

Oh boy, Wyoming is gorgeous.  We had the bluest skies with the biggest fluffy white clouds I've ever seen.   The sun came out and the layers came off.  There were lots of historical markers and we tried stopping at most of them.  I love reading about the history of our nation.  Here are a few of the markers.  If you want to read, just zoom in; I won't give you a history lesson here.

One of the things I love about riding is how no matter where you are, other bikers will always ask where you're from, where you're going.   So far, we met a group of six from Minnesota headed to Durango, CO.  We met a couple form north of Minneapolis who were on their way to Colorado.  Four bikers from Illinois were on their way to tour the Black Hills and a couple we met at a gas station were from Colorado headed to the Black Hills for the first time.

I love windmills.  Wyoming must have a million windmills.  I took some shots from my camera and they aren't the best but you get the idea...

...but this one was really my favorite...

pretty good considering we were going about 80 mph down the highway!

It was very hot and windy and Dave made a quick turn into an ice cream store.  He knows me well.

By the time we got to Casper, it was 87 degrees.  A shower, a good supper and back to the hotel where Dave is watching the race and I'm about ready to zonk out.

Tomorrow:  Green River, WY
