Day 3:: Casper, WY - Green River, WY

Today we rode 360 miles.

Again, I was up at the crack of dawn and we were on the road before 7 a.m.  We thought we would stop along the way and have breakfast.  Maybe a nice little home town restaurant...not.  Our first try was at the Alcova Marina Reservoir.  The sign said they had a restaurant - the first one was members only  {complete with guard to keep out the non-member guests -like us} and the second one wasn't open yet.  It was only 7:30 a.m.   We took a little spin around the lake and it was gorgeous.

We continued on.  We came upon a little gas station in the middle of nowhere - Muddy Gap Junction. While Dave got gas I went in to ask where we might find the nearest cafe.  {crickets chirping then hysterical laughter}  Well, depends which way you're going.  Oh, no it doesn't, it's 80 miles no matter which way you're going.  However, there IS a small restaurant down the road about 20 miles.  She said she's never stopped there but she's heard of it.  Okay, so off we go  {and now I'm 100% sure she laughed non-stop knowing she told us about Jeffrey City}!

We got to Jeffrey City and it seriously didn't look like anyone lived there.  This is the only picture I took because we high-tailed it out of there pronto!

The sign that is off to the left says 'VACANCY.'

We decided to try the restaurant...if you know anyone from Jeffrey City, please forgive me, but we walked in and it was scary.  Think Zombie Apocalypse and Deliverance...together...in one place...!
We decided we weren't hungry after all.  Off we went.  Later while we were eating lunch, I googled Jeffrey City.  I would never be hungry enough to stop there ever again!

We ended up in Lander  at the Middle Fork cafe.  Yummy food.

Back on the road again and we stopped for our history lessons.

How ironic we were at Independence Rock the day before Independence Day!

Red Canyon

We continued on to Green River and the sky started to look like it could rain and then all of a sudden it WAS raining.  We stopped to put on our rain suits and as soon as we got them on, it quit raining.  Then it rained.  Then it quit.  It was like this the rest of the day. Luckily, we are in HOLY WIND  WYOMING so we dried off very quickly.

When it's hot, it's hot so we had to stop when we saw this...

We finally got to Green River.  Omygoodness.  Our hotel is right at the entrance to the Pilot Butte Wild Horse Loop Tour.  The setting is stunning but the shower and bed is just like all the others and we can't wait to crash.

p.s.  We ordered in and were sitting outside waiting for our food to arrive when a couple started chatting with us then asked to join us.  We had a very nice chat with them.  They were from Wheaton, IL and at the end of the night they gave us their unused bear spray for  when we are in Yellowstone!  NOW we have everything we need.

Tomorrow:  Twin Falls, ID
